How much does laser hair removal cost?

June 30th, 2009

There are a number of factors that determine how muchLaser Hair Removal costs. The size of the area is important. The larger the size, the more time it will take, and hence the more costly for you.

The ranges are large for pricing based on my research. For the face, it can range between $145 – $800 per treatment. For the legs, it ranges from $200 – $1000 per treatment.

When you buy a package you usually receive a discount between 10-20%. One thing to realize is not all lasers and intense pulse light systems are the same. You definitely want to go to a place that has the best. Otherwise you will be spending more than just your money but also your precious time if it doesn’t work very well for you and you have to go in more than anticipated. It typically takes 5-6 treatments to reduce your hair to an amount that you desire or can tolerate. Also light hairs are exceedingly difficult to remove.

Consulting a Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon would be something that I would recommend. We specialize in the face and are highly qualified to help you with this.

laser hair reduction and wearing jewelry during treatment, is it safe?

June 30th, 2009

It is very likely that the jewelry can serve as a reflective device and cause the laser light to reflect off the jewelry and into someone’s eyes, etc.  Even with protective devices, this reflection is not safe to have as the protection only serves to partially protect someones eyes. Also, the reflection could cause damage to areas on the body that the laser is reflected on to. So absolutely, you should have the body jewelry removed prior toLaser Hair Removal.

IPL and laser hair settings, preventing complications

June 30th, 2009

I would tell your physician to be conservative in the settings and proceed with caution.  You want to go to a doctor that will take care of you and sometimes that is hard to figure out. There are ways to start the settings in a conservative way so that you have much less chance of complications. Then you can proceed to increase the settings slowly to get the results you want.

Also, there are systems out there that are safer than others. Having some way to cool the superficial layers of the skin is important to protect these layers while treating the deeper layers. Lumenis has a great IPL for Laser Hair Removaland other lasers should have a cooling mechanism that works effectively.

Itching after laser hair removal

June 30th, 2009

You may need some antibiotics or anti inflammatories like topical steroids to help the condition. After Laser Hair Removal your skin’s defenses are down and you are more likely to have infections and develop contact dermatitis from anything that you use.

For the first 2 weeks after your procedure you should be using a gentle cleanser and do vinegar washes 3-5 times a day. Vaseline or aquaphor should be applied at all times.  After your skin heals over, you can start using a gentle moisturizer and sunscreen. But you should always test you skin first to see if you get any reactions. If you do you should wait a couple of days to restart the moisturizer and sunscreen. After 3-4 weeks you should then be started on Retin A and hydroquinone.

Here at our office we use the Lumenis One which is the best Intense Pulse Light system in my opinion.  It can be used for hair removal along with other lasers such as nd Yag, diode, and alexandrite lasers.

Reusing stored Juvederm, is it safe?

June 30th, 2009

Reusing previously injected Facial Fillersreally depends on the physician. It is generally not recommended to do this practice. I never reuse previously used Juvederm. In my opinion, Juvederm is sterilized for one time use. Injecting Juvederm later only invites an increased risk of infection whlie it sits in the stored environment. No matter where you store it, the Juvederm will accumulate bacteria and when reinjected will only increase the risk of infection. I would be careful when this is done in my opinion.

Lower Lip Asymmetry and lumps after Juvederm

June 29th, 2009

In my experience, when there is extra oozing in the area, Juvederm is likely to pull in more volume than Restylane and can give you extra swelling in the area that has more oozing. This will go down over the course of a week. Don’t worry though you can always take some of the hyaluronic acid away with an enzyme injection consisting of hyaluronidase or wydase.

This can be done in a judicious way to make it look the way you want it to look.  the same goes for the lump. Massage is another way to help alleviate the differences.  You should ask your doctor to help you though this.  Massage is less likely to improve the lump and my experience the enzyme injections can really help in this situation.

Non Surgical way to rejuvenate the midface

June 29th, 2009

Volumizing for the midface is one of the best ways to rejuvenate this area. Facial Fillers and Fat Transfer procedures can markedly bring youth to this area in a natural way.  Dermal fillers are a non surgical way to do this without long incisions but the effect is short lived lasting from 6 months to a year or more, depending on the product.  Fat injections are another option that also requires no incisions just small puncture holes to achieve beautiful results that can last years up to 10 years or more.  Volumizing is a great alternative to midface rejuvenation.

Juvederm dissolution through hyaluronidase injections

June 28th, 2009

Hyaluronidase per vials is a lot less expensive than Facial Fillers like juvederm and restylane. For this you are paying for the cost of the time from the injector and will depend on their rates on an hourly basis. For your lips, I wouldn’t expect that would be more than $250 more or less. The doctor or injector that did your procedure should really help you with this to help you achieve the best results.

Don’t worry, you can get your lips the way you want; it’s not actually that hard as it seems. Before you get injections in your lips, it is helpful to go to a doctor with a great sense of aesthetics.

Improving Glabellar lines with botox and fillers

June 28th, 2009

The glabellar area looks the way it does when you lose volume in this area as you age. Botox is a temporary fix to paralyze the muscles for a 3-6month period. This keeps the muscles from working and creating and deepening the wrinkles in this area. Botox doesn’t improve the volume loss. If you look at infants and children you will notice that the glabellar area is quite a bit fuller than the older individual and really the whole forehead is much more volumized in youth.

Facial Fillersand Fat Transfer are a great way to improve the glabellar region and the lines that form in this area. The filling removes the muscles from the skin and makes it harder for the muscle to actually create the wrinkles. Fat injections also help break up the fibrous tissue that can sometimes hold down the wrinkles in their current wrinkled state.

Recovery from botox and other fillers like restylane, juvederm, radiesse, perlane, etc.

June 28th, 2009

There are many factors that will determine and affect your recovery from dermal fillers or botox / Dysport.

Generally, Botox is much less involved and typically you will have small mosquitoe bites for about an hour. Bruising is less common with botox as opposed to dermal fillers. Facial Fillersrequire even distribution for even, smooth results. And if you are to do that you need to layer the filler every where in the area that you are augmenting many times. This usually means that you need to go in and out with the needle multiple times.

Each time you do this you increase your chance of disrupting a blood vessel. Bruising in my experience is more common in the eye region. This is because of the thin skin in this area and the greater vascularity that is located here. Avoiding blood thinners is really important and icing can really help.

Your age and genetics play a factor as well. As you age, your blood vessels are more fragile and your clotting can also be less robust. Genetically, you might be more prone to bleeding as well. Ice and local anesthesia are things that can help along with judicious use of pressure in certain areas.
