Botox used to fill up the lips?

July 2nd, 2009

Facial Fillerslike Restylane and Juvederm are really for filling up your lips. Botox can give a little element of filling by relaxing the lip muscles to allow them to volumize through the relaxation. But this effect is subtle. If you really want to volumize your lips, go with a filler. One thing you should know is that botox can again relax the lip muscles, but a benefit includes decreasing the lip lines through the muscle relaxation.

Fat Transfer are another option to fill up the lips and when done right can last for years.  Once the fat finds a blood supply it will live like normal tissue.  Technique is crucial.

I refined an amazing volumizing procedure called “the YoungLift”.  This is an innovative technique that volumizes your face to bring out the younger and natural you without looking like you had something done.  This is not a facelift and requires no incisions.  Only pinpoint puncture sites are used and these heal imperceptibly.  The YoungLift can be done without general anesthesia and without drains, and large bandages.  You also have a lot less downtime and discomfort compared with traditional facelift procedures.  Dr Young employs the very best techniques from around the world into one volumizing procedure and he uses his internationally acclaimed understanding of facial beauty to create the youthful volume you once had. The YoungLift techniques can help with filling up the lips as well.  You can great results with fat injections in the lips.

Lip Implants and permanent solutions

July 2nd, 2009

Fat Transfer would be a permanent type of implant and filler that could be your option.  They are natural, from your own body, take on the characteristics of the tissue that you inject them near, have less chance of reactions, and are not foreign. Depending on what you need exactly, other fillers can also help, including silicone implants that are placed around your mouth.

Silicone injections, however, are something that I would stay away from as they are hard to remove and once they’re in, they are permanent. I don’t do silicone injections and don’t plan on ever doing them. Other dermal fillers can improve your lips appearance but again, as you probably know, they are not permanent and last 6 months to a year.

Radiesse good for lip enhancement?

July 2nd, 2009

Radiesse is generally avoided in the lips due to the bumps and nodules that it can create. Restylane is the best in the lips. Juvederm can also be used in the lips as well. Both of these products have a limited longevity and can last from 6 months to a year.  Fat injections are an option in the lips but take a lot of experience and knowledge of lip anatomy and dynamics to create the best result.

Fat transfer, when done well, can last years. But you want to go to a surgeon that has experience doing these in the lips. The length of time fat lasts is tightly related to the technique that is being used. You have to traumatize the fat as little as possible and when you place the fat it has to be layered in small amounts so that the fat can survive and find its own blood supply and environment.

Dr Young employs the very best techniques from around the world into one volumizing procedure and he uses his internationally acclaimed understanding of facial beauty to create the youthful volume you once had. permanent solutions for lip augmentation

July 2nd, 2009

Silicone and Artecoll are permanent type lip fillers. This is good in the sense that it will last a long time. However, using these materials does not leave a lot of room for discrepancies. If you don’t like the results, you have to surgically remove these fillers and they don’t go away on their own.

Also, these fillers have a chance of getting infected, which can lead to a lot of problems. Many times also, these fillers don’t feel natural and can be felt in the lips. Fat is a great alternative for permenant filling and Lip augmentation. When done right, they can last for years and up to ten years or more. Also, they are a lot more likely to feel natural.

Fat takes on the feeling of the structure that it is placed next to. If placed next to bone it will feel like bone. If placed next to muscle it will feel like muscle. One thing is very important, you should go to a surgeon that understands aesthetics. Facial beauty and the theories that explain it are central in forming the goals that surgeons strive for.  When you build a house you need architectural plans for the house to get a great result. This same principle applies to cosmetic surgery, a set of rules or theory to explain beauty is central to getting a great result.

Other ways to augment the lips are through goretex. Or there are a variety of surgical procedures, lip lifts, lip advancements that can enhance your lips in a permanent manner.

Results that I can expect for collagen injections to the lips?

July 2nd, 2009

Collagen injections have largely been replaced by Hyaluronic Acids such as Restylane, Juvederm. The reason for this is that hyaluronic acids last longer. Collagen Lip Augmentation lasts 3-6 months and the hyaluronic acids can last from 6months to a year. This has been proven in head to head studies comparing them. Also, collagen injections usually require a skin test and time to wait for the results. There are some collagen injectables that don’t require a skin test and they have gained some popularity but not as much as hyaluronic acids. Importantly, you should go to someone who knows aesthetics and facial beauty. This will avoid results like the Octa-Mom, Meg Ryan, Heidi from the Hills, Lindsay Lohan, Brittany Murphy, etc. The reason for this is that our understanding of aesthetics is not solid at this point. We really don’t know how large the upper and lower lip should be.

Fat can also be used in the lips and when done right can last for years.  I came up with an exciting volumizing technique below.

Do doctors make the upper and lower lips the same size and what is best?

July 2nd, 2009

The upper lips should be smaller than the lower lip always. In fact, the upper lip should be about 1/2 the size as the lower lips to maintain the correct balance within the face. The puckering that you create with lip augmentation should also be very specific. The upper lip puckering should be in the central 1/4 or about an iris width. The lower lip pucker should be about 3 iris widths. The height of the upper and lower lips should be about 1/2 and 1 iris widths respectively.

Lip Augmentation can be done with fat injections as well.

Is laser resurfacing good skin care treatment?

July 1st, 2009

Laser Resurfacingare great for cosmetic and medical reasons. If you are interested in improving your wrinkles, pigmentation problems (like sun spots, etc), the size of your pores, your skin texture, etc laser resurfacing can be a great option. It can make a huge difference in your appearance for the better. These are things or areas of improvement that really only resurfacing can do in a significant way. Skin care with cosmeticeuticals can only minimally improve your skin. Some skin care lines at the doctor’s office can do a little more than the products that you get at the cosmetic counter.

You might not know this but resurfacing can also improve your skin by reducing the number of cells that are bad as well. So from a medical standpoint, it can be beneficial in reducing your chances of acquiring skin cancer. This is done when you remove your more superficial layers of skin through resurfacing and receive more refreshened cells from deeper within your hair follicles when these cells “resurface” the skin that has been removed. These newer cells typically have much less DNA damage and hence less bad mutations that lead to cancer and this has been proven in scientific studies.

lasers and fillers whether they can be done together?

July 1st, 2009

There are studies out there that the use ofLaser Resurfacingand other Facial Fillers are safe. Although silicone injections are not prevalent in the US, this same principle applies. The lasers and Intense pulse light do not penetrate deep enough to effect the fillers including silicone fillers. Silicone fillers are also more resilient than other dermal fillers such as restylane, juvederm, etc.

Here is a live demonstration of my use of a co2 laser and laser resurfacing.

Best laser for Acne?

July 1st, 2009

There are multiple ways to improve your scarring from Laser Resurfacing. You want the simple answer. Yes, there are a lot of lasers out there but most simply put lasers are used to take away the top layers of the skin to remove the scarring and then what happens is that your skin cells deep within your hair follicles grow out and “resurface” your face and skin. The newer fractional lasers essentially manipulate your skin deeper to cause skin tightening to help improve the wrinkles such as Fraxel and Deep FX.  Lasers are just part of the treatment. You want to either have a co2 or erbium laser. Co2 allows more aggressive treatment.

All of the other names are just company names for either the co2 or erbium. Just ask your doctor to tell you what laser it is and the most important is knowing the wavelength and the name that is associated with the wavelength. Sometimes it requires other procedures for certain type of scars. Some of your more depressed scars require surgical excision or subscision where you use a needle to elevate the depressed scars so that the depressed area is more level with the rest of the skin. At times, this entails cutting around the whole part of the depressed scars to allow it to elevate. Laser resurfacing after this helps with the healing.

How do I choose the best laser treatment

July 1st, 2009

There are a lot of different lasers out there. Essentially for Laser Resurfacing, there are two lasers out there: CO2 and Erbium.

CO2 allows you to be more aggressive and you can vary the degree of this to fit anyone. Lumenis and their Active FX/Deep FX is the best in my opinion and in the opinion of the most infleuntial people out there. This is a CO2 laser.

Erbium has some limitations in that it can’t go very deep and doesn’t cause tissue contraction like CO2 lasers can. All other lasers such as Fraxel and Fractional lasers work by causing manipulation to the deeper layers of the skin to cause skin tightening. There are just a lot of companies out there selling them with different names. You just have to ask them what technology they are using and if they are making it complicated then I would ask someone else. These lasers take more treatments and take more time and money but have less downtime based on company reports.

However, I’ve heard from other patients that Fraxel and other fractionated lasers can cause more downtime than what the “people” are telling everyone.

What’s the best? It depends on how significant your wrinkles are. The more significant, the more aggressive you might want to be. It also depends on your lifestyle. Does your lifestyle dictate that you can’t have any downtime, if so you should consider less aggressive means.
