Introducing PCA Peels to AFPS!

July 22nd, 2011

Introducing PCA Peels to AFPS | Dr. Philip Young! What kind of peel is good for me? What is the difference between peels?  These are always questions that arise during any skincare consultation.  I believe that there is a peel for everyone! It doesn’t matter what type of skin or condition, there is a peel for you! Some of my favorite peels are TCA Peels from PCA Skin. (www.pcaskin.com)  Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peels are often thought of as very aggressive and producing substantial discomfort. PCA Professional™ TCA peels are very different from the standard. These TCA solutions are blends formulated with many ingredients including lactic acid (milk), ascorbic acid (vitamin C), plumping phytohormones and kojic and azelaic acids (natural skin lightener and antimicrobial) to produce dramatic results without the discomfort and downtime associated with traditional TCA peels.  Come in today for a complimentary consultation!

Epidermoid cyst removing them without a scar by Dr. Philip Young of Bellevue?

July 1st, 2011

Epidermoid cyst removing them without a scar by Dr. Philip Young of Bellevue? This is my discussion on this topic:

The patient mentioned this: “I actually have an epidermoid cyst and dermatologists told me that there is no way to get rid of them without a scar. she said you can leave them alone and hopefullly one day they can go away.. is this the best advice with no scar ?”

I answered:”They could get worst and get infected.  If you don’t mind the cosmetic impact then you can wait and see what happens. I don’t usually see them go away and if they do it takes a long time”epidermoid cyst before and after

Epidermoid cysts occur when there is some event that causes the hair follicle or pilosebaceous unit to become clogged and then the lining of the hair follicle starts to grow and form a cyst or pocket that goes into your tissues.  I am unaware of removing them without a scar. Usually the best way is to excise the lesion to get rid of them.  There are ways to make the incision look better.

Questions on Lateral Jaw Implants, Silicone implants, and screws used for the procedure by Dr. Young of Aesthetic Facial Plastic Surgery:

July 1st, 2011

Questions on Lateral Jaw Implants, Silicone implants, and screws used for the procedure by Dr. Young of Aesthetic Facial Plastic Surgery: I recently asked some questions on Lateral Jaw implants for a person on the east coast.  Here is how I answered them:

1) I looked at the jaw implants from the link you sent me. I saw that they had lateral implants and posterior implants. What is the difference?? And which one would you recommend for me?? Lateral implants are the ones I was discussing with you. I don’t put in posterior ones very often. I think they are more ridden with potential complications.

2) If these silicon implants are screwed in, they will not mobilize later right?? For instance, I can sleep on my side without fear of having them move right?  The screws will become part of you. The titanium metal osteointegrates with your bone. On fine mag, you can see the collagen bone fibers attach to the titanium. There will be a tight pocket around your implant and they should not move.  Also usually there will be bone that partially encases the implant.  But, they will not be as strong as your bone but strong enough.

3) Screwing in these jaw implants will not cause my bone to have problems right? I read something about silicon implants and screws. No they shouldn’t as explained above.  Sometimes you can get bone erosion.  The bone that you put it against in the lateral jaw is strong bone.  Alveolar bone is softer and that can have more erosion.  But this is always a possibility to have erosion.  Again, much less common with the stronger lateral jaw and lower part of the chin bone.

4) What would the recovery from jaw/chin implants  be like?? And how long does serious swelling typically last?? I ask because I don’t really want to tell people that I’m having jaw/chin implants. However, if my face is going to be swollen for 6 months, that could be hard. The swelling typically takes around 3-4 months to fully come down.  But you will have most of your results 70% at 6 weeks, and 90% at around 6 months.  It is really fast the first week and month. You should look fine around 2-4 weeks but the first week you have remarkable decrease in swelling.

Eye bags at the age of 19 are they from my genes or lack of sleep

June 11th, 2011

Eye bags at the age of 19 are they from my genes or lack of sleep by Dr. Philip Young of Aesthetic Facial Plastic Surgery: Eye bags are based on some genetics but most people have some element of it. I wouldn’t blame mother. Eye bags, Eye dark circles happen to almost everyone and it starts in the 20’s and 20’s. The cause is mostly the volume loss under your eyelid fat. The eyelid fat doesn’t get metabolized by the body and thus looks like it has grown. But it really is a loss of volume underneath it that accentuates it. Traditionally, people tended to remove the eyelid bags. This was not really treating the cause of what made them appear. The more natural way is to fill the volume loss. The options temporarily include fillers like restylane, perlane, juvederm. Long term options include fat injections, the young vitalizer, implants in this area.  Because you haven’t had anything done I would start with fillers before moving on to more longer lasting options. A lack of sleep can accentuate the condition. But mostly it is an issue of aging. The YoungVitalizer is another great option for lower eyelid bags and the one that I prefer.

Earlobe repair for earlobe gauging

June 11th, 2011

Earlobe repair for earlobe gauging by Dr. Philip Young of Bellevue | Seattle: I read some of the pricing on this page. I would think that most of the estimates are rather low. I charge in the range between 3-4000 for both ears when an earlobe plastic surgery reconstruction is done.  For one ear it ranges between 2-3000. It does depend on the severity of the hole that is being repaired. But after gauging, the flaps are large and this is not an easy procedure that is if you want a great result. I think if you don’t really care about the outcome a great deal then you might consider choosing a less expensive route. But you do get what you pay for sometimes.

Earlobe repair for torn earlobe how much will that cost

June 11th, 2011

Earlobe repair for torn earlobe how much will that cost by of Dr. Philip Young Bellevue | Seattle: In general it will cost somewhere in the range of 500-5000 for otoplasty earlobe repair depending on who you go to and what area it is. It doesn’t mean that if you spend more you are going to get a better result all the time.  But sometimes, you do get what you pay for as they say.  When the costs are higher you are going to have to see if the facial plastic surgeon is going to really put in the effort to give you the best outcome.  You should see if this will cover all of the post procedure follow ups etc and other costs.  Let’s say that you need additional work to make the result better. Most surgeons, in this case, will charge you the cost of doing the procedure but waive the surgeon fee within the first 6 months to a year.  For just a torn earlobe the pricing should be below 5000 and closer to 1-3000.

Can you remove cheek implants and what are some things to think about? Will my cheek drop?

June 9th, 2011

Can you remove cheek implants and what are some things to think about? Will my cheek drop? by Dr. Philip Young of Bellevue Seattle Washington: You can remove them and then carry out fat injections or put smaller ones in. Sometimes when you remove large cheek  implants you can get contracture that will cause your cheek to ball up. This phenomenon occurs in chin implants as well. The other alternative is to take out the implants and plan on fat injections to restore some of this volume. This can be done as early as one month. Although, I have done it as early as 2 weeks. Taking out cheek implants can make your cheek drop with the decrease in volume to avoid this you can replace the volume with another cheek implant. But in this case you can carry fat injections to avoid the dropping from the loss of volume.  A facelift or midface lift is another way of removing the extra tissue. But volume replacement is the most natural way to rejuvenate the face in this area.

Can a temporal lift work just as well as a brow lift to lift the lateral part of the eye?

June 9th, 2011

Can a temporal lift work just as well as a brow lift to lift the lateral part of the eye? by Dr. Philip Young: Temporal | Forehead lifts work well laterally. It is dependent on who is doing the procedure and how it is done. You have to make sure that the structures that are holding the eyebrow down are release to allow the eyebrow to come up and then fixing it up there is important. The more that your surgeon knows the better. Pictures would be better for me to find out what you are talking about. Fat injections are another way of doing this in a minimally invasive way.

Is there a permanent way of removing the vertical lines in between the eyes and eyebrows?

June 9th, 2011

Is there a permanent way of removing the vertical lines in between the eyes and eyebrows? by Dr. Philip Young of Aesthetic Facial Plastic Surgery: Brow lift with muscle excision and / or fat grafting / injections can be a solution for long lasting removal of vertical lines. First of all there is nothing that is permanent. Permanent, IMO, suggests infinity which is not possible.  But longer lasting results, instead of the results that you can achieve with botox toxin is possible.  There are ways to carry out browlifts where you can excise the muscle in between your eyebrows to decrease your ability to frown in this area. I have a live video demonstrating this if you are interested below. Fat injections all throughout the forehead is another option that can be done alone or in conjunction with a browlift and muscle excision. Another better alternative is the YoungVitalizer to treat these lines in between your eyes.
