Can a temporal lift work just as well as a brow lift to lift the lateral part of the eye?

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

Can a temporal lift work just as well as a brow lift to lift the lateral part of the eye? by Dr. Philip Young: Temporal | Forehead lifts work well laterally. It is dependent on who is doing the procedure and how it is done. You have to make sure that the structures that are holding the eyebrow down are release to allow the eyebrow to come up and then fixing it up there is important. The more that your surgeon knows the better. Pictures would be better for me to find out what you are talking about. Fat injections are another way of doing this in a minimally invasive way.

Is there a permanent way of removing the vertical lines in between the eyes and eyebrows?

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

Is there a permanent way of removing the vertical lines in between the eyes and eyebrows? by Dr. Philip Young of Aesthetic Facial Plastic Surgery: Brow lift with muscle excision and / or fat grafting / injections can be a solution for long lasting removal of vertical lines. First of all there is nothing that is permanent. Permanent, IMO, suggests infinity which is not possible.  But longer lasting results, instead of the results that you can achieve with botox toxin is possible.  There are ways to carry out browlifts where you can excise the muscle in between your eyebrows to decrease your ability to frown in this area. I have a live video demonstrating this if you are interested below. Fat injections all throughout the forehead is another option that can be done alone or in conjunction with a browlift and muscle excision. Another better alternative is the YoungVitalizer to treat these lines in between your eyes.

Short Forehead, a forehead that is about 2 inches in height. How do I increase this distance.

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

Short Forehead, a forehead that is about 2 inches in height. How do I increase this distance by Dr. Philip Young: Brow lift could increase the height of your forehead but laser hair removal is another option as well. Most brow lifts will increase the height of the forehead by stretching the skin of the forehead through incisions placed behind the hairline.   This depends on where the incision is placed. If the incision is behind the hairline (and endoscopic lifts) the browlift will increase the forehead height.  Incisions placed right in front of the hairline (pre trichial) or within the hairline (trichophytic) all have a tendency to shorten the height of the forehead which for some is ideal. Also there is the option of laser hair removal to heighten the hairline. This something that you could discuss with your doctor.

persistent furrows between eyes, asymmetry in eyes, cockeyed appearance and persistent lower eyelid bags?

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

Persistent furrows between eyes, asymmetry in eyes, cockeyed appearance and persistent lower eyelid bags by Dr. Philip Young? The asymmetry in your eyes could be due to swelling that is still from surgery. How long has it been since the surgery?  Swelling can last a couple of months.  Most of it goes away in a week and more so after a month. The lower eye lift is supposed to remove fat from your eyelids.  Sometimes though this can accentuate the hollowing in the lower eyelid area and make you look even older here. Wrinkles in your forehead can be improved by a brow lift by raising the eyebrows and negating the need to open up your eyelids and eyebrows more.  Also removing muscle in between your eyes can really help prevent the vertical lines in between your eyebrows and eyes. Fat injections in the lower eyelid and forehead and upper third of the face can really bring youth to your face.

I’m european and have low eyebrows and puffy eyelids. Would a brow lift be something for me?

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

I’m european and have low eyebrows and puffy eyelids. Would a brow lift be something for me by of Dr. Philip Young Bellevue | Seattle: I see that you may have some fullness in the upper eyelid area. This is actually something that gives you youth and that is something to think about.  Your eyebrows may be a little low but not worth the extent of a browlift.  A browlift could feminize you and create more of a surprised look for you. I think if you were to consider something, I would suggest taking some skin from your upper eyelid or actually creating a crease as in Asian eyelid surgery. This could define your upper eyelids more. Your situation is something that Asian people inquire about all the time.  A crease could decrease the puffiness you have to a controlled degree without lifting your eyebrows to a surprised and more feminine appearance.

Brow lift for an attractive lady who feels she has a sad look or sad eyes. Would a temple lift or brow lift work?

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

Brow lift for an attractive lady who feels she has a sad look or sad eyes. Would a temple lift or brow lift work? by Dr. Philip Young: This is how I answered this lady that came into my office:

You are an attractive pretty lady. I can see why, though, you would possibly think that you have sad eyes. One I think that your eyebrow may be a little low but not extremely low. A browlift may help you brighten up the face / image and your eyes. One technique that could help you is if you thinned your eyebrows through judicious brow waxing and hair plucking.  Also lightening your eyebrows could help.  But a brow lift could increase this distance and make your eyes look softer.  The distance between your eyelid margin and eye brows should be around 1 iris width and not much more than 1 1/2 iris widths.  A temple lift would concentrate on your lateral portion of your eyebrow.  A brow lift would be the whole eyebrow lifted. In my opinion, I think you need the medial part of your eyebrow lifted as much as your lateral part of your eyebrow, if not more. I would do a brow lift and not just a temple lift.

My eyes are set high and my eyebrows are closer to my eyes. What can be done?

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

My eyes are set high and my eyebrows are closer to my eyes. What can be done? by Dr. Philip Young: Low set eyebrows and not high set eyes could possibly be the status and a browlift could help  / improve your situation. Without a image, it would be really difficult for me to know what you are talking about. Most simply, I have a theory on facial beauty that might help you understand your facial aesthetics better. I would suggest that you read that seminal paper. But if your eyebrows are a little closer to your eyes, a brow lift could be the simplest answer for you. This will create some separation from your eyes and your eyebrow.  Ideally this distance is around one iris width from your eyelid margin to the bottom of your eyebrow.  Much more than this distance will give you a surprised look.  Much less than an iris width will give you a stern look.

Botox for the glabella, forehead and crows feet by Dr. Philip Young of Bellevue | Seattle

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

Botox for the glabella, forehead and crows feet by Dr. Philip Young of Bellevue | Seattle: One thing occurs is when you treat the glabella and crows feet, you are able to raise the eyebrows.  Also with the way that you put the botox in the forehead you can raise your eyebrows laterally as well. Botox for the glabella help prevent the vertical wrinkles in between the eyes from forming. Within the forehead, botox prevents the horizontal lines from happening. Botox in the crows feet, improves these lines here. Typically, the glabella takes 12-20 units, the forehead 8-20 units, and the crow’s feet 12- 20 or more units. We prefer doing 20 units in the glabella, forehead and crows feet each for a total of 60 units. We have many live videos on plastic surgery and photos for you to see and a lot of information for you on our website if you would like to learn more.

Botox and Droopy Eyelid. What are some options on treatment?

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

Botox and Droopy Eyelid. What are some options on treatment? by Dr. Philip Young: Botox / Dysport and eyelid droopiness can be treated with drops to the eye. I typically prescribe aproclonidine or bromonidine. These drops act like epinephrine and stimulate the muscle that also elevates the eyelid called Mueller’s muscle.  This muscle is deeper than the levator muscle.  You will have to use this until the 3-4 months it takes your muscle to come back and act normally. I have found that the levator recovers faster than most muscles.

My fold is too low after Asian Eyelid Surgery and would like it higher? Can this be done? My previous surgeon said that there is not enough skin to do that.

Tuesday, June 7th, 2011

My fold is too low after Asian Eyelid Surgery and would like it higher? CAn this be done? My previous surgeon said that there is not enough skin to do that a discussion by Dr. Philip Young: Yes you can increase the height of the crease after Asian Eyelid Crease Surgery. It will entail setting the crease higher with a higher incision. The drawback in this situation is that you may have two incisions that could be exposed if you don’t have enough skin. It is likely that your crease is high enough and that all you need is more skin taken out. This is much simpler to do.  The options are there for you. I think non incision techniques that the others are advocating is harder to achieve symmetry and long lasting results and you may need to get more surgery in the future to correct that approach. Below is a picture from our Asian Double Eyelid Procedure Webpage that discusses more details on this procedure.
