My right eyebrow is higher than my left. Is there a subtle way to correct this?

Saturday, October 17th, 2009

This is a question I recently answered for someone:

Asymmetry in the eye area is normal.  In fact, we appreciate beauty in an asymmetric way.  Our right brains appreciate beauty more than our left and our visual fields are asymmetric.  Essentialy, in short, we see someone’s right face more when we regard or assess beauty.  This has evolutionarily lead to asymmetries in our face based on millions of years of sexual selection.  We tend to choose our mates based on how good the right sides of our face look more than what our left sides look.  Thats sort of the long story and there is even a longer explanation to that.

In terms of correcting, you should realize that not everybody is the same on both sides.  This may comfort you a little and might dissuade you from getting something done.  What I can say is that you can get some correction of this if you are willing to do this. From this picture, I would really have to see you in person or see pictures of you to really know, but your left eyebrow is a little lower.  You might benefit from adding volume to the left temple region and above the eyebrow to lift the eyebrow subtly.  Even adding some volume below the left eyebrow could benefit.  This can be done with Fat Transfer, Facial Fillers, and other implants.  A browlift could even pull up the left eyebrow but in a less than natural way.

But I would really have to see you in person to be able to counsel you more.

I hope that helps!!!

Fillers, Botox or Lasers for the Under Lower Eyelid Area?

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

This was a question I answered for someone recently:

Restylane is a filler and can be used to fill in the lost volume that is really the cause of the majority of the reason why your lower eyelid looks the way it does. Fat injections, the YoungLift, Juvederm, Perlane, Radiesse are other fillers that can be filled into the lower eyelid area.  The temporary fillers last from 6 months (restylane) to a year or more (radiesse) with perlane and juvederm in between.  Fat injections can last much longer but this isn’t guaranteed but is the best shot for a long term correction.

Botox prevents the muscle around the eyes from squinting which can make the wrinkles less noticeable. Dysport (or botox / bo tox / botulinum / neurotoxin / disport) is a great option.  But these do nothing for the surface quality of the skin and neither does the filler. But the fillers can decrease the amount of wrinkles by filling up the volume.

This is where the co2 laser or other resurfacing procedure (erbium yag, active fx, ultrapulse, deep fx, max fx, total fx, traditional co2 laser resurfacing, laser peel) can help with by decreasing the wrinkles and actually tightening the skin.  A small amount of volumizing also occurs with lasers with their creating of a thin collagen layer deep to the skin.

I hope that helps some!

Fat is taken from another part of the body and transferred to an area that needs volume

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Fat transferring entails taking fat from some area of the body where fat is not wanted and then transferred / injected into an area that is needed or where volume is needed.  Usually very small puncture holes are needed to achieve great results.  This procedure is highly technique dependent.  Proper technique can make the results last for years.  Attention to detail is a must.

I refined an amazing volumizing procedure called “the YoungLift”. This is an innovative technique that volumizes your face to bring out the younger and natural you without looking like you had something done. This is not a facelift and requires no incisions. Only pinpoint puncture sites are used and these heal imperceptibly. The YoungLift can be done without general anesthesia and without drains, and large bandages. You also have sometimes a lot less downtime and discomfort compared with traditional facelift procedures. I employ the very best techniques from around the world into one volumizing procedure and I use my internationally acclaimed understanding of facial beauty to create the youthful volume you once had.

What are the options for reducing the size of your pores. Does a facelift work for this?

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

This is a question that I answered for a client who had questions regarding whether a facelift would work to reduce the pore size as well as acne scars:

Fat grafting, laser resurfacing, ipl are better options than a facelift (face lift/ lifestyle lift / quick lift / lunch time lift / mini lift / weekend lift / s lift / lifelift / thread lift ). Some newer studies and results from physicians more recently are showing that these modalities may be more beneficial to reduce pore size for people.  A facelift will not effectively do this but it can improve your wrinkles to an extent.  Fat grafting (or fat transfer / fat augmentation / facial fat transfer / fat injections) has been shown by some to regenerate the skin including reducing the size of your pores.  Stem cells in the transferred fat can rejuvenate the skin for years.  Laser resurfacing through the creation of new collagen can also reduce the size of the pores as well.  Ipl is another newer treatment for pore size.  Out of all the options fat grafting might be the best option for pore size and acne scarring.  More and more surgeons are using fat grafting as a way to improve acne scarring.

I refined an amazing volumizing procedure called “the YoungLift”. This is an innovative technique that volumizes your face to bring out the younger and natural you without looking like you had something done. This is not a facelift and requires no incisions. You also have sometimes a lot less downtime and discomfort compared with traditional facelift procedures. I employ the very best techniques from around the world into one volumizing procedure and I use my internationally acclaimed understanding of facial beauty to create the youthful volume you once had. In your case, the Younglift could help fill in the acne scars and volumize your face which will reduce your pore size

What are some options for filling in dents in the cheek?

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

Fillers, the YoungLift, Fat Injections, Cheek Implants are options for those areas.  Having experience in augmenting areas such as this is important.  Facial Fillersare temporary (restylane, juvederm, perlane, cosmoderm) but can be a way to fill in those dents and a good way to assess whether volume can help.  Fat injections are a long term possibility to augment that area.  If the fat survives after 6 months it is likely to last for years.

I employ the very best techniques from around the world into one volumizing procedure and I use my internationally acclaimed understanding of facial beauty to create the youthful volume you once had. In your case, the Younglift could help fill in the dents that you are concerned about.

Cheek implants (cheek augmentation / cheek lift / cheek filling / cheek enhancement) are another way of augmenting the cheek but in your case would not be a good option.  Your dent is mostly a superficial element and would require something placed in a superficial manner.

Blue shadows under the eyes and what are the treatments?

Monday, August 31st, 2009

This is an answer that someone had asked me recently:How do you improve the blue hue under the eye with lower eyelid surgery and what options are there?

Options include fat injection (fat transfer / fat augmentation / fat grafting),  laser resurfacing, (laser peel / Active Fx, Deep Fx, Co2 laser resurfacing), lower eyelid blepharoplasty (lower eyelift / eye lift / lower eyelid pinch). It sounds to me that you might have some volume loss under the skin of the lower eyelid which would include skin thickness, collagen and fat in the lower eyelid cheek area.  The result is that the muscles around the eye are seen more clearly under the skin to give it the blue hue that is seen.  the ways to improve this include fat injections that create a layer of tissue under the skin to block the deeper blue colors from showing throw the skin.  Laser resurfacing also can create a layer of collagen underneath the skin to also block the blue from showing through.

The other explanation is that the bulging of fat from the lower eyelid could be causing a shadow under the bulge to cause the blue discoloration. Lower eyelid blepharoplasty which can remove the fat and skin that is causing the shadow underneath.

Can fat injections be permanent? What are some options.

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Fat injections (fat transfer / fat grafting / fat augmentation) can be “permanent”. One thing to realize is that fat injections and anything in life aren’t necessarily permanent and forever.  Fat injection results can last many years if done right.  Just like the fat that you had when you were younger, they eventually went away after a while as you aged.  This same process will eventually happen to the fat that you have injected.  Over many years, the fat will get metabolized as you age but the results may last for 10 years or more.  Another option of volumizing is through facial implants.  Silicone is the most common implant that people place within the face and these implants can last essentially forever.  Facial implants (silicone implants / cheek implants / jaw implants / facial implantation / chin implants) are more of a permanent option but the drawbacks are having a foreign material placed within your face and it does require more incisions and likely recovery time than fat injections.  If you can handle the idea of putting something foreign into your face this is a great option.  Silicone implants have been placed into thousands of patients around the world and has an excellent track record for safety.  You can see more on fat injections on my website and youtube account.

Fat grafting: does it last and how long

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

This is an answer to a question that someone had for me:

How long does Fat grafting to upper eyelids last? How long the result would last?

Fat grafting (fat transfer / fat augmentation / fat injections / liposculpture / liposuction and injection) is the ideal permanent filler substance and can last if done right. Fat is living tissue that requires care from the part of the surgeon to insure survival for the long term.  If the fat survives past 3-6 months, the fat will likely stay in there for many years.  Many people have shown that grafted fat can last for 8-15 years.  The loss of the fat is generally gradual just like your own fat that you had when you were young.  You will always look younger than a twin that never had it done.  To make fat survive you have to be gentle to the fat. I don’t spin the fat, freeze it, wash it, nor add too much ingredients to the mix when I harvest the fat.  Also I place small amounts in many different layers.  The other authors are correct in saying that the there may be the need to do some touchups to the areas for more volume. In the most simplest words, as you age you lose blood vessels for that was supplying the original volume and hence the new volume that you place will require more blood flow that may not exist.  Hence a building up of the volume may be needed.

I refined an amazing volumizing procedure called “null”. You also have a lot less downtime and discomfort compared with traditional facelift procedures. I employ the very best techniques from around the world into one volumizing procedure and I use my internationally acclaimed understanding of facial beauty to create the youthful volume you once had.

Eyelifts / Browlifts / Fillers and how to make the eye look younger again.

Monday, August 10th, 2009

There are many procedures out there that can be done to improve the way the eye looks and to reverse some of the signs of aging (including droopy eyes, extra eyelid skin, tired looking eyes, puffy eyes, eye bags, eye wrinkles).  An eyelift / blepharoplasty (or eye lift / eye plastic surgery) procedure is one way and this entails removing skin from the upper eyelid. Sometimes this entails removing skin, muscle, fat and also recreating the eyelid crease.  Recreating the eyelid crease is perhaps the one thing that can really make an eye look better by reconstituting this crease which can really open up the eye and it appearance.  This is a really complicated part of an eye lift and requires understanding the anatomy to a greater degree and an increase level of expertise.  I have a lot of experience recreating the crease and I have done this with my Asian clientele but I also apply it to my caucasian clientele and other ethnicities.

Browlifts (or brow lift / forehead lift / brow plasty / browplasty / eye brow lift / eyebrow lift) are another way to open up the eye by pulling up the eyebrow to a more youthful position (other signs of aging include droopy eyebrows, hooded eye brows, extra eyelid skin).  This is done through incisions that are placed behind the hairline and hide really well.  Sometimes an incision in the eyelid crease is necessary to better expose the orbital bone above the eyelid and to allow a better approach to lift the eyebrow.  It is important for you to go to a surgeon that understandsFacial Beautyto get those excellent results.  You may have seen people who have a surprised look after a brow lift.  This is direct by product of our limited understanding of facial beuaty. I came up with a new theory on facial aesthetics / beauty which I think really answers some of the questions we have been wondering about facial beauty all of these years.

Fat Transferare all terms used to define a procedure that takes fat from somewhere else in your body and placed into your face or whereever you need more volume.  Fat grafting into the face can have amazing rejuvenative effects to the face by replacing lost volume in the face that have occured through aging.  When we age we lose fat, and our skin thickness gets thinner by losing tissue such as collagen, etc.  Fat grafting just replaces this volume. Fat can be more permanent.  Anything fat or volume that is present for more than 6 months to a year will last for many years, sometimes 8 years or more and up to 15 years. Basically, if you had a twin, you would always look younger than that twin if you had fat grafting and your twin didn’t.

Facial Fillers do the same thing as fat but they are just more temporary lasting 6 months to a year or more depending on the filler that use.  In general hyaluronic acids like restylane, juvederm, and perlane last from 6 months to a year. While Radiesse, a product of bone made up of calcium hydroxyapatite, can last up to year or more.

Both fat and fillers can be placed around the eye to really bring youth to the appearance of the eye.  But a knowledge of facial beauty is much more than half the battle in rejuvenating the eye.

You also have a lot less downtime and discomfort compared with traditional facelift procedures. I employ the very best techniques from around the world into one volumizing procedure and I use my internationally acclaimed understanding of facial beauty to create the youthful volume you once had.

What do you do for lower eyelid bags, dark circles for someone in their lates 30’s early 40’s?

Monday, August 10th, 2009

Anullcan (or lower eyelid lift / lower eyelid blepharoplasty / lower eyelift / lower eyelid pinch) help by taking away extra skin and removing fat in the lower eyelid (this can also help lower eyelid bags, dark circles, puffy eye bags, dark under eyes). But instead of a lower blepharoplasty, I would consider fillers of some sort to the lower eyelid and cheek area.  What I see in many patients is the volume deficiency at the junction between your lower eyelid and cheek area.  When you age, you start to lose volume in the cheek area by losing fat and losing skin thickness and tissue within the skin.  A lower blepharoplasty could help the transition from your lower lid and cheek area. But a lot of times this procedure can make you look more hollow. I get a lot patients that have this issue after a lower eyelid blepharoplasty.  The better option is to fill the deficiency withFacial Fillers like restylane, juvederm, radiesse, perlane and even better for a long term solution fat injections.  I refined a procedure for volumizing called the YoungLift that does the same but, in my opinion, better that other volumizing procedures.

I refined an amazing volumizing procedure called “the YoungLift”.
