Is it normal to have bilateral numbness after a Facelift done by another doctor?

Friday, June 26th, 2009

This is a question I answered regarding a procedure done by another physician.

Numbness after a null is unavoidable and will get better in time.  When you do a facelift, your skin has to be elevated to expose the structures that need lifting. This invariably will interrupt the nerves that bring sensation to your skin.

The nerves will take some time to regenerate as they grow at most 1mm a day in the best conditions but are hindered by infection, inflammation, age, genetics, health, nutrition etc.

One thing that could be considered is that a larger nerve is caught by the sutures which is rare and eventually will also recover in most instances. But rarely can require removing the suture and redone.

What is a one hour face lift?

Friday, June 26th, 2009

One hour null / mini lifts / quick lifts /  will offer limited improvement and you should be aware of this prior to doing this type of procedure. If you are okay with this, it could be a great way to give you some more youth and avoid a much bigger procedure. You just have to be realistic. Significant results from a facelift takes time and an hour is just too little time to get all that needs to be done to get the specific improvement in the desired areas.

Talking it over with your doctor is the best thing to do and you should avoid factory-like offices. You might be disappointed. You want someone to take care of you and spend the extra time to assure that you get the best results — someone who cares about your future.

Consulting a Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon would be something that I would recommend. We specialize in the face and are highly qualified to help you with this.

Black eyes 2 months after a facelift by another surgeon

Friday, June 26th, 2009

Sometimes, black eyes are due to many factors that can thin your blood or make you bleed more during surgery and afterwards. Genetics, medications, technique of the surgery, etc can all play a part.

When you ooze more during and after your procedure, you will tend to develop more bruising. Two months is rather a long time to resolve this, and it may be due to your circulation and general health. Also, with a facelift, the lymphatics that drain your eyes and the pathways from eyes to your general lymph system and circulation are sometimes impeded due to the area of the facelift. Your eyes drain towards the angle of your jaw, below your ear. This is the exact area that is manipulated during the facelift and can impede the drainage of your black eyes.

Exercise and sometimes massage and warmth can help. Black eyes can also be due to iron deposits from blood where your bruises where located. This is harder to treat but can be the same treatment as with persistent bruising, i.e. exercise etc. Sometimes, people also attribute prominent veins to the appearance of black eyes.  If these are veins or blood vessels, time will improve them. Sometimes lasers can help decrease the appearance of these vessels. The only way you can find out is by having someone look closely at it.

This is a question that I answered for a patient that had lumpiness, and numbness after a procedure by another doctor

Friday, June 26th, 2009

This is a question I answered regarding a procedure done by another physician.

Lumpiness, swelling, and numbness after a facelift / mini lift / s lift / weekend face lift can be a normal thing. Lumpiness is usually due to a number of factors of which include; fluid collection, inflammation, sutures, and cysts.

Most of the time, the lumpiness will go away with time. At times, your surgeon may consider steroid injections to help the lumpiness. Although, time is a better alternative.  Steroids injections can cause their own problems like skin thinning that is hard to predict along with vessel formations and other side effects. Massage is another thing that can help with the lumps.

Heat is something that I would be really cautious of employing. Numbness is a natural process. When you elevate the skin for the facelift, it will interrupt the nerves reaching the skin and this is just part of the process. It takes nerves one day to grow 1mm in the best of conditions.

Many times it will take up to a year for the nerves to fully come back and sometimes the numbness does not fully recover. Your doctor should help you with this and hold your hand so to speak through the whole process.

Headache after Neck Lift and Blepharoplasty

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

This is a question that I answered for someone who had a procedure by another physician.

Pains and aches after any procedure is a natural process and sometimes the cost of being beautiful. It is almost impossible to not have these after any procedure and this include a null and null. The question is how painful it is and if it is causing you to be in a state where you can’t function well on a daily basis. A stitch might need to be removed if it continues to cause you problems and can be done very easily.

The headaches are due to sutures pulling on your facial muscles and will get better. You might need some different medications to help you with your pain and transition.  Sometimes the pain is due to nerves being caught and is rarely indicated to have a procedure to alleviate this nerve impingment.  Muscle relaxants, anti inflammatories, Nerve relaxants can all help your situation and can be discussed with your doctor.  Don’t worry this will get better. Just be patient.  Your doctor will hold your hand, so to speak, through this whole process.

Can Rhinoplasty be done with other procedures like fat grafting?

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

Rhinoplasty would be something that I would do first on the same day and follow up that with Fat Transfer. They can be done concurrently as long as you are ready for the extra recovery with all of those procedures. They are in different areas and will have a less of an effect on each other. Brow Lifting is another option to rejuvenate your eyes. But all you may need is fat grafting to subtly lift your eyes in a natural way and to rejuvenate both your upper and lower eyelids for the most natural and youthful effects. You should see my before and afters to see what I mean.

How do you improve the lower eyelid dark circles and bags

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

The null can be something that can help in a less invasive way.  This technique entails volumizing the face with no incisions and is done through small puncture holes that heal essentially imperceptibly.  Volumizing is the best way to hide eye bags without the hollow surgical look.  The amazing part about the YoungLift is that you don’t need long incisions, general anesthesia (unless requested), and the recovery is often alot faster than traditional type of procedures.  Traditionally, these under eyelid bags were removed through incisions under the eyelashes which often gave people a hollow and unhealthy look.  The incisions were also more visible.  YoungLift avoids long incisions and uses small puncture holes that heal imperceptibly.  The YoungLift brings more volume to the under eyelid area to create more volumized cheeks to smooth the transition from the lower eyelid to the cheek region.

The YoungLift is performed by Dr Philip Young MD at his Bellevue Office near Seattle, Washington.

Can a “one-stitch” lift elevate the brows

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

When I think of the one stitch lift, I think of something that might be a quick fix to something that might need more than that.

Using one stitch to lift the face is like trying to build a house with one pillar for the foundation. The face and what it looks like cannot be naturally changed with one stitch.

If you were to use one stitch, it would likely make the face appear significantly abnormal. I have done over 1200 facelift and I know that using just one stitch would not allow the lifting process to pull a wide enough area to pull the face naturally.
